One of two brothers involved in an attempted robbery at an El Cajon hotel, where a clerk was shot, was sentenced Tuesday to eight years in state prison.
Charles Douglas Winzer, 24, admitted being the gunman in the attempted holdup at the Quality Inn and Suites in western El Cajon last December.
His brother, 23-year-old Christopher James Winzer, pleaded guilty to being an accessory and was ordered earlier this month to serve two years in jail and spend another two years under community supervision.
Authorities said the younger Winzer acted as a getaway driver and lookout while his older brother wore a mask and pointed a shotgun at a clerk while demanding cash.
As the clerk attempted to escape out a back office, he was shot in the lower back, but the wound was not life-threatening, according to authorities.
Both brothers were arrested within days of the shooting after investigators tracked down their getaway vehicle, which was captured on surveillance video.
