An 8-year-old girl who was reported missing from her home in Oceanside, prompting an extensive search of her neighborhood, has been found safe, police said.

Kimberly Gomez Reyes was seen by her mother in the front yard of the family home on the 1400 block of Lemon Avenue around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Oceanside Police Department. When her mother returned a short time later, her daughter was gone, police said.

The girl was reported missing around 6:15 p.m. and police began searching the neighborhood on the ground and from the air.

Around 11 p.m., a woman who lives near Kimberly, escorted her home. The woman said Kimberly had been at her home since 6 p.m.

“The adult was unaware of any police activity in the area and stated she did not hear the helicopter or any of the PA announcements that were in the area,” Oceanside Police Lt. Val Saadat said. “Kimberly returned home safely. Neither foul play nor suspicious circumstances appear to be a factor.”
