A 30-year-old Lincoln Park woman awoke to find a burglar in her home early Wednesday and shot her in the leg when she refused to leave, police said.

The shooting in the 500 block of Drew View Lane was reported at 2:38 a.m., according to San Diego Police Officer Dino Delimitros.

The 34-year-old suspect became verbally abusive and threatened the victim before she got a handgun and opened fire, Delimitros said in a statement.

“Fearing for her safety, the victim fired a round at the suspect, hitting her in the leg,” he said. “The suspect ran out of the house and collapsed on a lawn a few houses to the north.”

She was expected to survive, according to Delimitros.
