A probation sweep involving traffic stops and trolley patrols in Santee, Lakeside and unincorporated areas in East County left 40 people facing drug charges Sunday.

More than $1,000 worth of methamphetamine was seized during the probation check, dubbed ā€œOperation Summer’s End,ā€ which was conducted between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday, according to a San Diego County Sheriff’s Department statement.

Sheriff’s officials said those arrested were booked into jail on suspicion of various drug violations including possession of drugs and paraphernalia and possession of drugs for sale.

The sweep was held to identify probationers involved in crimes and to help those on a conditional release avoid a criminal lifestyle, according to the statement.
