Two stabbings in San Diego neighborhoods had unusual twists, police said, one because it was prompted by argument over another crime, and another because a man threatening suicide turned on a loved one instead.

An argument over drunken driving in the Talmadge neighborhood ended with a man hospitalized with stab wounds and another behind bars, a police officer said.

The two acquaintances were in front of an apartment complex in the 5300 block of Monroe Avenue shortly after 8 p.m. Sunday and began bickering about a previous drunken driving incident, according to San Diego police Officer Robert Heims.

At some point during the altercation, the suspect pulled a knife and stabbed the victim once in his right arm and once in his stomach, Heims said. The suspect fled following the assault.

The victim was taken to a hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries, according to the officer.

Heims said the victim gave officers the suspect’s name and a computer check led then to his cell phone number. The lawmen called the suspect and persuaded him to turn himself in, Heims said.

In the other case, in Jamacha, a young man, 19, who was threatening to kill himself with a knife stabbed his foster brother who was trying to stop him from doing himself harm, police said.

The victim, also 19, was stabbed twice in the stomach and once in the chest about 5:15 p.m. Sunday in the 900 block of Armacost Road near Woodrow Avenue, according to San Diego police Officer Robert Heims.

Heims said the assailant fled the scene. A description was not provided.

The victim was taken to a hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries, Heims said.
