The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department is seeking volunteers to help them distribute information in nine neighborhoods that could face the threat of wildfire.

Fire officials will fan out from several locations at 9 a.m. Saturday to share fire prevention materials door-to-door in communities. The sites are:

  • Ocean Air Recreation Center, 4770 Fairport Way
  • Robb Field, 2525 Bacon St.
  • Golden Hill Recreation Center, 2600 Golf Course Drive
  • Martin Luther King Jr Recreation Center, 6401 Skyline Drive
  • Scripps Ranch Recreation Center, 11454 Blue Cypress Drive
  • North Clairemont Recreation Center, 4421 Bannock Ave.
  • Allied Gardens Recreation Center, 5155 Greenbrier Ave.
  • San Ysidro Activity Center, 179 Diza Road
  • City Heights Recreation Center, 4380 Landis St.

Volunteers must be 18 or older or be accompanied by an adult. If you would like to volunteer, email the department at  sdfd@sandiego.gov with your name, how many people will join you and which of the sites you’ve chosen.

Officials pointed to the May Bernardo Fire, which sparked in San Diego during a series of wildfires that hit the region in one week, as an example of the types of blazes the region could face this fall as the most intense part of the fire season begins.
