NBC7 reported there were about 150 chickens running free in the area.
Two other vehicles collided trying to avoid the crash, the CHP said.
The truck driver suffered minor injuries, according to the dispatcher.
The company that owns the chickens sent a truck to pick up the wayward birds, she said. Tow trucks were ordered to pick up the burned semi-truck and its trailer.
A SigAlert was issued in the area until the chickens could be corralled and wreckage removed, the CHP said.
