World Trade Center San Diego will host the 2019 MetroConnect Grand Prize PitchFest Wednesday, offering local companies a chance at a $35,000 grand prize.
MetroConnect is WTC San Diego’s flagship export support program intended to help local businesses and companies expand to foreign markets. WTC San Diego selected 20 companies for the program’s year four cohort last year, awarding each of them $10,000 grants and resources over the course of a year to help them improve their export sales.
The companies combined to generate an increase of $69.6 million in export sales, according to WTC San Diego. Four of them — Bitchin’ Sauce, Eddy Pump, LRAD Corporation and Scientist.com — were chosen as finalists for the PitchFest event and one will be awarded $35,000 to continue their foreign market expansion and the title of MetroConnect year four winner.
The event will take place at the Alexandria at Torrey Pines at 10996 Torreyana Road. Taylor Guitars CFO Barbara Wight and Bud Colligan, a senior advisor on international trade in Gov. Gavin Newsom’s Office of Business and Economic Development, are expected to speak during PitchFest.
Tickets are available at sandiegobusiness.org/events/metroconnect- grand-prize-pitchfest-2019, starting at $30. Attendees will help choose the competition’s winner, according to WTC San Diego. The event is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m.
