The median apartment rent in San Diego rose slightly in October to $1,579 for a one-bedroom apartment and $2,048 for a two-bedroom unit, according to Apartment List.
The San Francisco-based online rental marketplace said its research showed San Diego rents have increased 0.2% from September and 0.8% from October 2018.
The median rent in San Diego was less that in San Francisco, San Jose and New York, but higher than in Los Angeles, Seattle and Washington, DC.
“Compared to most other large cities across the country, San Diego is less affordable for renters,” Apartment List said. In fact, a two-bedroom apartment is almost $1,000 per month less in Phoenix.
Within the San Diego metropolitan area, Carlsbad had the highest median rent at $1,910 for a one bedroom and $2,470 for two bedrooms.
While San Diego rents remain high, rent increases over the past year lag both the California average of 1.1% and national average of 1.4%.
