MarketInk: KUSI-TV Names Denise McManus as VP/Station Manager

KUSI-TV has announced that Denise McManus has been named VP and station manager. She succeeds Charlie Grisham who left in April after eight years at KUSI to join Tegna-owned KSDK-TV, an NBC affiliate in St. Louis, as director of sales. McManus, who joined the station Aug. 13, said she will oversee sales revenue and be involved with programming content.

A KUSI statement said McManus has executive broadcast experience in multiple television markets with expertise in station and sales management, client and revenue development, along with local programming and content development across multiple media platforms.

“McManus’ broad knowledge of the industry, combined with a stellar record leading sales efforts at media companies around the country, makes her an invaluable addition to the station,” said Michael D. McKinnon, president/GM, KUSI.

McManus was previously station manager at two Tigna-owned stations in Tucson, Ariz., including KMSB-TV/Fox 11 and KTTU-TV. She also has worked in Phoenix where she opened a new TV station, KASW-TV, a CW affiliate. She said she was involved in studio construction, hiring the news team, developing programming and branding.

The native of Swartz Creek, Mich., studied journalism and business at the University of Michigan.

Salem’s 2 Radio Stations Now Simulcast on FM

Salem Media Group, operators of two AM San Diego radio stations, including KPRZ 1210-AM (“K-Praise”) and KCBQ 1170-AM (“The Answer”), has announced the Federal Communications Commission has granted it operational control of two local FM radio frequencies that will simulcast programming heard on the AM stations.

In addition to 1210-AM, KPRZ can be heard on 106.1-FM. In addition to 1170-AM, KCBQ can heard on 96.1-FM. Prior to Aug. 21, nothing was heard on those two FM frequencies, according to Steve Brodsky, general manager for Salem’s San Diego cluster.

“These two new FM frequencies will help us expand our reach for KPRZ and KCBQ primarily in San Diego’s North County region,” said Brodsky, who said two FM signals can be heard as far north as San Clemente. “Many people never turn their dials from FM stations. Hopefully, they will discover KPRZ and KCBQ and become part of our listening family.”

Brodsky said the FCC calls them a “translator station” when an AM station simultaneously rebroadcasts its signal on a FM frequency. He did not reveal how much Salem paid the FCC for the two local FM frequencies.

Salem Media Group, part of Salem Communications, is the nation’s largest commercial radio broadcasting company providing Christian and conservative programming. Salem owns and operates 115 radio stations, with 73 stations in the top 25 media markets and 25 stations in the top 10 markets.

Crowe PR’s New Client is At Your Gate

Crowe PR, a San Diego-based public relations firm, has been named the agency of record for At Your Gate, a mobile, in-airport delivery service. Anna Crowe, founder/CEO of Crowe PR, said a regional and national brand awareness program is planned.

With the At Your Gate mobile app, travelers, flight crews and airport staff can order food and travel accessories from numerous restaurants and retail vendors located within the airport and get it delivered to their gate or other airport locations.

Launched in early 2018, the service is currently available only at the San Diego International Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport. Crowe said At Your Gate plans to expand to additional airports within and outside of the U.S. in the coming months.
