A former director for the Jewish Federation of San Diego County will now take the helm as vice president of philanthropy for United Way of San Diego County.

News of Lisa Kalal’s appointment to the post was announced Wednesday by United Way officials.

“Kalal brings more than 20 years of experience in philanthropic development to the 97-year-old nonprofit, with expertise in areas such as major sponsorship acquisition, donor cultivation, board development and strategic planning. Her role in United Way will include growing major gifts, leadership giving, donor engagement, and dynamic donor recruitment and retention,” according to a United Way statement.

“Lisa exemplifies leadership qualities that will help United Way continue to grow and strengthen its philanthropic presence in the community,” said United Way president and CEO Laurie Coskey, Ed.D. “We have much to do to fulfill our commitment, and we believe Lisa can help us achieve our bold goals that give the children and families we serve the best odds for success.”

In her recent position as the director of women’s philanthropy for the Jewish Federation of San Diego County, Kalal was responsible for growing philanthropy and engagement with the Federation’s female donors, the United Way statement continued.

Kalal received her undergraduate degree from New York University and resides in Tierrasanta with her husband and three teenage children.
