The Monterey Place development in Chula Vista.

An affordable infill development of four- and five-bedroom homes in Chula Vista that opened last weekend has won praise from the city’s mayor.

“We need and want this type of quality, eco-friendly infill development to provide new home ownership opportunities for families in Chula Vista,” said Mayor Mary Casillas Salas.

Homes in the Monterey Place development are priced from $545,000, about $100,000 under the median price in the city.

The homes have Spanish and Monterey styling with two floor plans ranging from 1,708 to 1,973 square feet and two-car garages. Nearby schools in the established neighborhood include Kellogg Elementary School, Hilltop Middle School and Hilltop High School.

The project was developed by the Douglas Wilson Companies, which earlier developed Symphony Towers and Parkloft downtown
