A San Diego nonprofit that promotes the healing power of music will hold a concert on Saturday, April 30, to benefit the music therapy program at Rady Children’s Hospital.
The annual Heart of a Child concert by Resounding Joy at 7:30 p.m. in the Contrad Prebys Performing Arts Center in La Jolla will feature a range of musical genres from classical to pop, a cappella and instrumental.
All proceeds benefit the Ariana Miller Healing Notes Music Therapy program to ensure no-cost music therapy for San Diego children when they are hospitalized or home-bound by illness and injury.
Ariana Miller battled congenital heart disease including six open-heart surgeries. While waiting for a heart transplant, the one bright spot in her week was a visit from her music therapist.
Sadly, Ariana passed away at age 13, but her parents have helped bring music therapy to thousands of other children through the program named for her.
According to Rachel Gant, the director of the Healing Notes program, “There is something special about how music connects with children when they are in a difficult, stressful situation.”
Tickets for the benefit concert can be purchased online.
