Carols by Candlelight, a holiday concert organized by Poway Mayor Steve Vaus, will return this month for its 30th year to fundraise for Rady Children’s Hospital.
The annual event, which takes place Saturday and Sunday, will feature country music stars Collin Raye, an Academy of Country Music nominee and Craig Campbell, a regular on the Grand Ole Opry. Other acts include Bryan White, Jamie O’Neal and Vaus, a Grammy Award-winner, will also perform.
“Carols is a gift of music to the community and a gift of hope to the kids served by RCH,” said Vaus, who noted service members and first responders are also honored at the annual event. “It all adds up to an incomparable evening of holiday entertainment.”
Vaus said he created the fundraiser 30 years ago for Rady Children’s Hospital because it brings people together in “the spirit of the season.” Last year, the concert raised more than $50,000 for the hospital, Vaus said.
“Attendees come back year after year because they love hearing music stars sing their hits and favorite holiday songs so that will never change,” Vaus said. “For me it just wouldn’t be Christmas without Carols by Candlelight, and thankfully a lot of other folks seem to feel the same way.”
Following the concert, the audience will have an opportunity to meet the performers.
Carols by Candlelight will take place at 8 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday at the California Center for the Arts at 340 N. Escondido Blvd in Escondido.
