The Old Globe begins preview performances of Romeo and Juliet this week as part of the theater’s 2019 Shakespeare Festival.

Previews continue Tuesday through Friday ahead of opening night, Saturday.

Performances run through Sept. 15 at the Lowell Davies Festival Theatre, 1363 Old Globe Way.

Louisa Jacobson plays Juliet to Aaron Clifton Moten’s Romeo in the tragi-comic tale of star-crossed lovers and warring families.

Barry Edelstein directs. He returns to the festival after helming two other Shakespearean tragedies in recent summers  – Othello in 2014 and Hamlet two years ago.

After the summer festival concludes, the fall months will bring the world premiere of Almost Famous (based on the 2000 film), and the drama Noura to the Old Globe.
