In 2017, a picture of kayaks arrayed at sunrise at Otay Lake won Chula Vista’s “THIS is Chula” photo contest.
Now the second-largest city in San Diego County is looking for a second grand-prize winner to succeed kayak-shooter Ed Banaña.
The top prize is seeing the image used on a billboard advertisement for the “THIS is Chula” campaign as well as on the city’s website and marketing materials.
The runner-up gets two tickets to the Evanescence concert Aug. 31 at Chula Vista’s Mattress Firm Amphitheatre (formerly Sleep Train) — potentially a $240 value. The contest, now under way, runs through Aug. 19.
All submissions are via social media — “simply post your ‘THIS is Chula’ photo to Instagram, Twitter or Facebook, using the hashtag #THISisChula and tag the city handle of @thinkchulavista,” the city said.
All photos must be taken in the City of Chula Vista and be recognizable as such. (Complete details are here.)
Preference in judging is given to photos recognizably taken in front of a Chula Vista landmark, such as a building or park.
“Please make sure your post can be seen by the public and not just friends,” the rules advise. “This requires the ‘global’ permissions/privacy settings.”
