“The Whistler,” a crime novel by John Grishman, led the list of the most popular books in the San Diego County Library system in 2017.
The list is based on checkouts at the library 33 branches from Borrego Springs to Rancho Santa Fe to Imperial Beach.
All of the books on the library’s top-10 list fall in what it calls the “grown-up” category:

- “The Girl on the Train” by Paula Hawkins
- “All the Light We Cannot See” by Anthony Doerr
- “The Woman in Cabin 10” by Ruth Ware
- “Night School: A Jack Reacher Novel” by Lee Child
- “The Last Mile” by David Baldacci
- “The Wrong Side of Goodbye” by Michael Connelly
- “Truly Madly Guilty” by Liane Moriarty
- “Bullseye” by James Patterson
- “The Crossing” by Michael Connelly
The top DVD was “The 5th Wave” and the top e-book was also Grisham’s “The Whistler.”
