Hollywood’s dismal summer whimpered to an end this weekend, with a movie in its third week taking the number one spot.
“The Hitman’s Bodyguard” was estimated to deal $13.4 million in tickets over the four-day holiday of the holiday weekend. It has grossed $58 million over two weeks plus this weekend.
“A rather slow, but actually better-than-anticipated Labor Day weekend,” pronounced movie analyst Paul Degarabedian at comScore.
Rounding out the 10 most-popular movies this week, as estimated by the studios, were “Annabelle: Creation” ($9.3 million), “Wind River” ($8 million), “Leap!” ($6.6 million), “Logan Lucky” ($5.6 million), “Dunkirk” ($5.6 million), “Spider-Man: Homecoming” ($4.7million), “The Emoji Movie” ($3.4 million), “Despicable Me 3” ($3.3 million) and “Nut Job 2: Nutty By Nature” ($2.9 million).
