The organizers of the GI Film Festival are seeking films set in San Diego or Imperial counties for the annual military-theme festival.
Local veterans, active-duty military and filmmakers with no military background can submit entries through May 15.
Documentaries and shorts about the local military experience, set here or made by a local resident are among the eligible categories. Entry fees start at $35.
A highlights from the 2016 festival included the West Coast premiere of “USS Indianapolis: The Legacy,” a retelling of the fate of a World War II heavy cruiser by local filmmakers Sara Vladic and Melanie Capacia Johnson.
The three-year-old festival, one of the few of its kind, will take place Oct. 18-22 at multiple locations.
