“In The Va Va Voom Room” contains adult material including partial male nudity, sexual themes and content, and that could be why the stage show has been so popular.
San Diego’s Diversionary Theater is bringing back this burlesque production, which first ran at the University Heights venue in Jan. 2016 to sold-out audiences. The Diversionary is hoping for the same success this year as it stages “In The Va Va Voom Room” Jan. 5-8.
This year’s rendition features male and female dancers performing tantalizing acts, including an updated version of pole dancing with male dancers.
“In The Va Va Voom Room” choreographer Michael Mizerany told KPBS that the show is not about stripping per se, “It’s about how you take off your clothes and the way you do it is empowering.”
“So just come and experience something that maybe you haven’t experienced before,” Cara Steen, one the show’s dancers, told KPBS.
The Diversionary Theater is located at 4545 Park Boulevard in University Heights. For ticket information, visit http://diversionary.org.
