The ARTS DISTRICT in Liberty Station offers a lot of artsy activities this summer with free concerts, gallery walks, classes, workshops, movies and art fairs.
It’s all happening at the historic setting of the former Naval Training Center San Diego off Rosecrans Avenue in Point Loma. Here is your guide to an ‘ARTrageous’ summer at the ARTS DISTRICT:
Friday Night Liberty
There is a special art gallery walk once a month on Friday nights. It’s free to the public featuring open studios and performances. It’s offered from 5 to 9 p.m. on Jul. 1, Aug. 5 and Sept. 2.
Comickaze Presents: Family Movie Nights
Bring enough lawn chairs and blankets to keep the whole family cozy at these fun movie nights. The showings start right after the sun sets, so you can watch the view. They’ll play The Avengers (Jun. 11), Ghostbusters (Jul. 2), Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Jul. 30) and Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Aug. 20).
Liberty Station Summer Block Party
Take a break, kick back and enjoy life at the summer block party at Liberty Station. There’s activities for all ages with art demos, pop-up yoga and a superhero movie night. Refreshments and yummy bites are served, along with live entertainment. It’s Saturday, Jun. 11 from 6 to 9 p.m.
Women’s Museum of California: WINE AND MUSIC FESTIVAL
The 9th Annual Festival features five Southern California musicians, several wineries and local restaurants. It’s Friday evening, Jun. 24 at 6 p.m.
Junk in the Trunk Vintage Market
They say one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. Come find the most unique gadgets and gizmos to add to your junk collection at this vintage market. There’s plenty of unique and creative local vendors, featuring all things chippy, rusty and vintage. There’s handmade furniture and jewelry, along with hundreds of other treasures for the home or garden.
ARTS DISTRICT Concerts
So you think you can dance? Then, lace up those latin dance shoes and come out to the Manny Cepeda Band’s free concert performance. They’ll play classic salsa, merengue, cumbia, bachata and cuban music on Jul. 23 at 6 p.m.
The Navy Band Southwest – Destroyers will perform a high energy dynamic concert with a 6-person ensemble. They’ll present a free concert featuring rock, smooth pop and jazz on Jul. 30 at 5 p.m.
This annual art festival is a golden opportunity to view or buy art while enjoying good music. The family-friendly event also offers interactive art-making activities in the scenic Ingram Plaza. The ArtWalk is open on Aug. 13, Saturday from 10 to 6 p.m. and Aug. 14, Sunday from 10 to 5 p.m.
