The 2015 San Diego Asian Film Festival is scheduled to open Thursday night with a screening of “Miss India America.”
The comedy, which begins at 7 p.m. at the Museum of Contemporary Art at 700 Prospect St., concerns a woman who feels the need to compete with a beauty queen to keep her boyfriend. It has won awards for best film, actress and screenplay at other festivals.
The 16th annual festival is set to offer 130 films from 20 countries over 10 days at venues around San Diego County. Most of the action will be based at the UltraStar Mission Valley, 7510 Hazard Center Drive, according to the Pacific Arts Movement, the festival organizers.
An awards gala is set for Saturday night at the Mission Valley Marriott, honoring employment law attorney Jerrilyn Malana for her community service.
