A 12-day marathon showing of every episode of “The Simpsons” began at 10 a.m. Thursday in connection with FXX’s acquisition of the exclusive cable rights to the groundbreaking animated comedy.

All 552 episodes of prime-time television’s longest-running scripted series will be shown in chronological order, with “The Simpsons Movie” airing at 6 p.m. Aug. 29, following episode 400. The marathon — the longest in television history — will conclude at midnight Sept. 1.

Beginning Sept. 2, FXX will air episodes of “The Simpsons” in the late afternoon, early evening, prime time and late night on weekdays and weekends. A themed mini-marathon of eight episodes will begin at 4 p.m. Sundays, leading into the 8 p.m. broadcast of “The Simpsons” on Fox.
