The Park View baseball team that competed in the Little League World Series will be honored along with other South Bay sports teams Wednesday afternoon.

The Girls and Boys of Summer Celebration will begin at 5 p.m. at Memorial Bowl, 373 Park Way.

“We want the community to come together and recognize the incredible achievements of these young people,” said county Supervisor Greg Cox, who plans to attend the event. “The world is learning what those of us who live and work in South County know — that our youth sports leagues are the best.”

The Park View team won the West championship before heading to South Williamsport, Pennsylvania, for the Little League World Series. Park View, which won the world title in 2009, was eliminated from this year’s tournament during pool play.

Other teams to be honored are the:

— national champion Bonita Valley girls softball 12-and-under Gold All- Stars;

— Bonita Valley 10-and-under and 14-and-under softball All-Stars; and

— Chula Vista South Colt League All-Stars, which won the West Zone title.

“We are so proud of the five teams that competed in national championships this summer,” Chula Vista Mayor Mary Casillas Salas said. “Our girls softball and boys baseball teams are great city ambassadors on and off the field. We look forward to celebrating their success.”
