The San Diego Padres will be attending a showcase of free-agent right-hander Tim Lincecum, which will take place later in February, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

As many as 20 teams are expected to be at the showcase.

The report says that the Padres have been in contact with Lincecum’s agent “a number of times.”

Lincecum, 31, has won two Cy Young Awards and has been to four All-Star games in his nine-year career with the San Francisco Giants.

Manager Andy Green named his first three pitchers in his starting rotation last week with right-hander Tyson Ross getting the opening day start followed by right-hander James Shields and then right-hander Andrew Cashner.

Right-handers Brandon Maurer, Brandon Morrow, Colin Rea and left-hander Robbie Erlin are all expected to compete for the final two spots in the rotation.

Lincecum could provide an upgrade to a staff that will be without Ian Kennedy next year, who signed with the Kansas City Royals in the offseason.
