San Diego earned a perfect score of 100 points Monday in the Human Rights Campaign’s annual ranking of cities for LGBTQ equality.

Of the 506 cities reviewed in this year’s report, only 60 received a perfect score of 100 points, and San Diego also earned an additional bonus of 10 points.

In Southern California, only Crystal City, Long Beach, Los Angeles, Palm Springs, Rancho Mirage and West Hollywood received perfect scores.

“I am extremely proud of the work San Diego has done to continue to be a nationwide leader in promoting equality,” said City Councilman Todd Gloria. “Our region has benefited from a history of strong LGBTQ leadership and though we have come a long way, we must always look for ways to improve to ensure every person is afforded their basic rights, respect, and dignity.”

The 2016 Municipal Equality Index is the fifth annual ranking of American cities on 41 criteria, including passage of non-discrimination laws, employment and contracting policies, transgender benefits, inclusiveness of city services, law enforcement and representation by LGBT leaders.

The City of San Diego has received a perfect score every year since the ranking was first introduced in 2012.
