The San Diego Unified School District has a new, but familiar, police chief.
Michael Marquez, a veteran law enforcement officer who has served as interim chief for the district, has been named to the top spot.
Marquez is a 27-year police force veteran whose career began in 1990, when he served with the National City Police Department as a patrol officer for more than 11 years.
In 2001, he joined San Diego Unified’s Police Department, and after serving for two years as the full-time officer at Mission Bay High School, he was promoted to school police sergeant; promotions to lieutenant, and then captain, followed.
Married with three children, Marquez is a graduate of the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute.
