The San Diego Police Department warned drivers of a DUI checkpoint at an undisclosed location within the city limits on Friday night.

Police will be checking for signs of drunk or drugged driving as well as proper licensing from 11 p.m. Friday until 3 a.m. Saturday. The location will be chosen based on collision and arrest statistics.

The department regularly announces the checkpoints in advance because of the deterrent effect on potential drunk drivers.

Those caught driving impaired can expect the impact of an arrest to include jail time, fines, fees, DUI classes and associated expenses that can exceed $10,000.
