A motorcyclist suffered serious injuries in a collision with a car that turned into his path on a freeway offramp in San Marcos, San Diego Sheriff‘s officials said Thursday.

The 44-year-old rider of a northbound Honda motorcycle struck the side of a Nissan turning right on the state Route 78 transition to Nordahl Road against a red light early Wednesday afternoon, according to sheriff’s Deputy Michael Gildersleeve.

The rider was ejected from the motorcycle and suffered a serious leg injury, the deputy said. He was taken to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido to be treated.

The 62-year-old man behind the wheel of the Nissan apparently was uninjured and remained at the scene following the crash. Gildersleeve said the motorist was cooperating with the investigation and was suspected of driving under the influence.
