A man who was shot several times while visiting a park in San Marcos was not discovered by police until more than five hours later and more than four miles away from the shooting scene, according to authorities.

Sheriff’s deputies responded at about 10 p.m. Friday to reports of gunshots in the area of Bradley Park at Linda Vista Drive and South Rancho Santa Fe Road in San Marcos. But they could not find a gunshot victim or a crime scene, according to Sgt. Michael Arens.

Carlsbad police responded at about 3:15 a.m. this Saturday morning to a report of a male with several gunshot wounds in the 7200 block of Paseo Ploma, Arens said.

Paramedics got the victim to the hospital and into surgery in time and he was expected to survive.

Carlsbad police determined that the shooting had happened at Bradley Park and handed the investigation over to county sheriff’s detectives, according to Arens.

The victim’s name and suspect information were not released by law enforcement officials.

Detectives asked anyone with information about the case to call the Sheriff’s Department non-emergency line at (858) 565-5200, or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
