A 52-year-old man suffered a serious head injury Sunday when he was thrown over the front of his bicycle at the top of Double Peak Park in San Marcos.

The accident happened at 9:41 a.m. at Double Peak Drive and San Elijo Road, San Diego Sheriff‘s Deputy John Balos said.

The man was riding a mountain bike downhill from the top of Double Peak Park towards San Elijo Road, Balos said. “While the male was riding down the hill he applied his brakes to slow down and his body was thrown over the front of the bike. He fell onto the road hitting his head on the ground.”

The man was not wearing a helmet and suffered a serious head injury, the deputy said. He was transported to Palomar Medical Center for treatment.
