Six bus passengers and the driver of an SUV were injured Saturday when the SUV crashed into a Metropolitan Transit System bus in El Cajon.

The crash was at 5:36 p.m. at the intersection of Ballantyne Street and East Madison Avenue, said Sonny Saghera of Heartland Fire & Rescue.

Witnesses told police that the bus was going east on Madison with a green light when it was hit on the passenger side by the SUV, which had been travelling north on Ballantyne, El Cajon Police Lt. Taylor said.

The driver of the SUV suffered a possible rib fracture and six passengers on board the bus had minor injuries, Taylor said. All seven victims were taken to hospitals for treatment.

El Cajon police were investigating the crash and did not believe alcohol was a factor, Taylor said.

Heartland Fire & Rescue crews from El Cajon responded to the crash and were assisted by counterparts from the Santee Fire Department, Saghera said.
